American Society Traditional Events
The American Society of Rio de Janeiro hosts a variety of traditional events throughout the year, bringing together members of the American expat community and locals who share an interest in American culture.

From elegant celebrations that highlight American cuisine and style to family-friendly gatherings like Halloween parties with costumes and candy, and Easter egg hunts for kids, our events offer something for everyone. Our Thanksgiving dinners provide a warm and familiar taste of home for Americans living in Brazil.

These special moments are more than just festivities—they’re opportunities to connect, build community, and share meaningful traditions, all while experiencing the vibrant energy of life in Rio de Janeiro.
Annual General Meeting
Going forward, the President and Board of Governors of the American Society of Rio de Janeiro plan to invite members to participate in a special annual tradition:

The Annual General Meeting and Cocktail Reception is planned to be a complimentary, members-only event, and only members who have RSVP’d in advance will be admitted to the venue.
The evening traditionally includes:

-
A review of the past year and the positive impact the Society has had on the community
-
Election of Officers and Board Members
-
Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres
Black-Tie Gala
Occasionally, the American Society of Rio de Janeiro hosts a special fundraising gala, bringing together American and international expats, prominent Brazilians, diplomats, and business leaders.

As one of our most impactful fundraising events, the gala helps raise significant support for our partner charities, many of which work with vulnerable children and youth in Rio de Janeiro.
It’s a meaningful evening that combines celebration with purpose—strengthening our community’s commitment to making a difference.
Kids Parties
Traditionally, our parties are held at a private venue, offering a safe and welcoming space for families to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon.
Children can play freely on the playground, run on a big open field, and participate in crafts and games organized by our wonderful volunteers.

Family activities include:
-
Face painting
-
Bouncy house
-
Arts and crafts
-
Yummy snacks!

Feijoada on the Farm
An annual event Feijoada at the Farm is our traditional Brazilian celebration! Feijoada is traditionally served for lunch on Saturday or Sunday and intended to be a leisurely midday meal. It is meant to be enjoyed throughout the day and not eaten under rushed circumstances.
The meal is usually eaten with extended family and paired with an event like watching a soccer or other social event. Because of the dish's heavy ingredients and rich flavors, feijoada is viewed as Brazilian soul food.
For this event, you can expect this family-friendly day to be full of food, good times, soccer (if desired) and fun for the kids!
Food: Traditional Brazilian Feijoada and all the trimmings!
Labor Day Welcome Back
Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is celebrated in cities and towns across the United States with music, parades, picnics, barbecue and kids’ entertainment.
For many Americans, particularly children and young adults, it represents the end of the summer and the start of the back-to-school season.
