Cancellation Policy

Membership / Annuity Cancellation Policy

The American Society of Rio de Janeiro is committed to providing a high-quality and satisfying experience for its members. However, we understand that in some situations, it may be necessary to cancel your annual membership, which renews automatically.

Cancellation may be requested by the member at any time, with no additional cost. However, a full refund will not be granted for the current annual fee already paid, except in cases of force majeure, as outlined below.

Cancellation must be submitted in writing (via email or letter) at least 30 days prior to the next renewal. If the cancellation is requested less than 30 days before renewal, the next payment will still be processed, and no refund will be issued.

In cases of force majeure, such as serious illness, a death in the family, relocation abroad, or other unforeseeable events, members may request cancellation with a proportional refund. The refund will be calculated based on the number of remaining months of the annual membership from the date of receipt of the written request.

If the member cancels the membership within 7 days of purchase and before using any benefits or participating in included events, the right of withdrawal applies, and a full refund will be granted, in accordance with Brazilian law. Refunds will be processed within 10 business days from the date of the cancellation request.

The American Society of Rio de Janeiro reserves the right to terminate a membership at any time if the member violates the Society’s policies or terms of use. In such cases, no refund will be issued, and the member must immediately cease using the services.

This cancellation policy is governed by Brazilian law, and any disputes will be resolved by the competent authorities.

Event Ticket Cancellation Policy

Ticket Cancellation

  • The cancellation of tickets for events may be requested by the purchaser at any time before the event takes place.

  • The request must be made through the same sales channel used for the original purchase, such as the Society’s website or a designated physical sales point.

  • The ticket value will be refunded, minus any applicable service fees.

  • The deadline to request cancellation may vary depending on the event, but in general, the maximum period is up to 3 (three) days before the event.

  • If the cancellation request is made within the allowed timeframe, the full ticket value (minus service fees) will be refunded to the purchaser.

  • If the request is made after the deadline, no refund will be issued.

No-Show (Non-Attendance)

  • Failure to attend the event (“no-show”) does not entitle the purchaser to a refund.

  • In cases of force majeure—such as illness or accident—the purchaser may request a refund. The request must be submitted through the original sales channel and must include valid documentation, such as a medical certificate, confirming the reason for absence.

Event Changes

In the event of a change to the event, such as a new date, time, or location, the purchaser may choose to:

  • Keep the ticket for the rescheduled event; or

  • Request a cancellation and refund of the ticket value.

If the purchaser opts to keep the ticket for the new date, a refund cannot be requested later, unless the event is ultimately cancelled by the organization.

General Provisions

The American Society of Rio de Janeiro reserves the right to modify this cancellation policy at any time, without prior notice. The most current version will always be made available on the Society’s website or at the official sales points.

This policy does not affect legal rights, such as the right of withdrawal or refund rights in the event of cancellation by the organizer.
